DeRay Mckesson is an American civil rights activist and organizer and former school administrator for the Baltimore Public Schools. Spurred by the death of Mike Brown and the subsequent protests in Ferguson, Missiouri, Mckesson has become a key player in confronting systems and structures that lead to the mass incarceration and police killings of blacks and other minorities. He is one of the founding leaders of Campaign Zero, which seeks to reduce police violence. Mckesson is also known for his award-winning podcast, Pod Save the People, a weekly podcast that creates space for conversation about the most important issues of the week and provides people with the information they need to be thoughtful activists and organizers.
